Spaces / Expose lag on Mac

Problem

When you use Spaces or Exposé there is a sufficient amount of lag. The animations are slow and stutter.

Cause

This can be caused by the BeamSync feature being enabled.

Solution

1. Press cmd + Space to bring up the Spotlight search.
2. Type Terminal and press Enter.
3. Inside the Terminal window type the following and press Enter:
   sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Compositor -dict deferredUpdates 0
4. You will need to enter your password and press Enter.
• It won’t show any characters when you type.
• If you do not have a password then set one first.
