Normally for installing applications which can’t be installed separately from the operating system, this saves you having to reinstall OSX which can take a lot longer.
- Insert your Mac OS X Install Disc.
- Make note of what the name of the disc is called when it appears on your Desktop.
- Click the Finder (smiley face) icon in the dock.
- At the top of the screen click Go, then Go To Folder.
- Enter: /Volumes/[Name of Mac Disc]/System/Installation/Packages
For Example:
/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages
or /Volumes/Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages - Click the Go button.
- A folder will be shown. This folder contains all the installer files for a lot of programs that come with your Mac.
Programs included are:
AddressBook
DVDPlayer
iCal
iChat
iTunes
Mail
Rosetta
Safari
It is recommend that you do not touch any other files if you don’t know what you are doing. You may need this if one of the above programs goes missing or if you want to revert to the original version of the program.
