Problems with HP Printers on Mac OS X

Problems may include printing blank pages, faded print outs or poor print quality.
  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left.
  2. Go to System Preferences.
  3. Click on Print & Fax.
  4. Click on your HP printer. Then click the ‘Options & Supplies’ button.
  5. Click on the Utility tab and click the ‘Open Printer Utility’ button.
  6. For bad printouts use the Clean Print Heads option.
  7. Click the Test Page option. This will bypass the driver.
  8. If it prints fine, then try and print in black and colour using 2 other programs (i.e. Word and TextEdit).
  9. If it only prints out OK in the Test Page utility then it’s best to do a complete uninstall of the HP printer.
  10. Then click the apple in the top left corner of the screen and click Software Update.
  11. Install all the updates and restart.
  12. Then go to Print & Fax in System preferences and try to Add your printer with the + button.
