Unable to click on icons in the top menu

Problem

On your Mac, you are unable to get a response when you click on any of the icons that appear on your top menu on the right hand side such as Bluetooth, Time, Wireless or the Spotlight search.

Solution

  1. Go to your Applications folder.
  2. Open the Utilities folder.
  3. Open Activity Monitor.
  4. Find SystemUIServer in the list and click on it once.
  5. Click the Quit Process button at the top.
  6. Click Force Quit.
  7. Close Activity Monitor.
If after these steps the icons fail to come back, try the following:
  1. Go to your Applications folder.
  2. Open the Utilities folder.
  3. Open Terminal.
  4. Type open -a SystemUIServer and press Enter.
  5. Wait for the icons to reappear and then quit Terminal.
