Problem
Your computer runs extremely slowly and crashes often, sometimes blue screening.
Cause
One of the common causes for this is having more than one anti-virus product on your computer. You can have more than one anti-virus but this can cause a lot of conflicts and crashing as the anti viral programs will be detecting each other falsely of being viral. This causes system processing and CPU time to be swallowed up.
Solution
In this case the most effective solution is to remove any additional anti-virus programs:
- Got to Control panel
- Then add/remove programs
- Find and highlight the anti-virus program(s) you don’t want in the list and then click either Remove or change, if you get just the change option when it gives you a menu choose to remove the item.

Windows 8 includes Microsoft Security Essentials but it is called Windows Defender, this is built-in to the operating system. However if you choose you can install a third-party anti-virus software which will then disable the Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender.
