Problem
Once your Mac has started up, you get the following error:
Insecure Startup Item disabled.
“/Library/StartupItems/Item_Name” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
Solution
- Go to your main hard drive (usually Macintosh HD).
- Open up the Library folder.
- Open up the StartupItems folder.
- Delete the item named in the error message (in this example, Item_Name).
- Empty the trash.

Deleting the file/directory is not really very helpful if you actually WANT the app in your statup folder.
Verify the owner and group are root and wheel and the permissions are set to 0755 (sudo chmod 0755 /Library/StartupItems/*)
I found that the best way was to re-install the Intego Uninstaller, which can be found here:
