Problem
At least one of the following may apply:
- Windows Explorer does not detect your CD / DVD drive.
- When you look at the drive status in Device Manager, it may state Code 19, Code 31, or Code 39.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers does not rectify the problem.
Solution
Easy Solution
- Open the Device Manager.
- Right click your disc drive and click Uninstall. Click No if asked to restart.
- Download and run this registry patch or follow the instructions below.
(Right click the link, then click Save Target As / Save link as.) - Click Yes to any prompts that appear.
- In Device Manager, right click on any item and click “Scan for hardware changes”.
Manual Solution
To manually apply the patch:
- Open the Device Manager.
- Right click your disc drive and click Uninstall. Click No if asked to restart.
- Click the Start button (Windows XP users should then click Run)
- Type regedit and press Enter. Click Continue or Yes if prompted.
- Navigate to:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class
- Under Class, find and click on this exact entry: “{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}”.
- On the right side, right click UpperFilters and click Delete.
- Do the same for the LowerFilters entry if it exists.
- Leave Upperfilters.bak and LowerFilters.bak alone if they are present.
- Close Registry Editor.
- In Device Manager, right click on any item and click “Scan for hardware changes”.
