Read and Write won’t read Citations in Word 2010

Problem

When inserting citations or bibliography styles (using the Word referencing tool) into a Word document using Read & Write, the playback of text stops at the citation and doesn’t continue.

Solution

Save the document as a .doc file as opposed to .docx:

1. In the top left of the screen, click File.
2. Click Save As.
3. Change the “Save as type:” dropdown to “Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)”
4. Rename the file if you like and click Save.
