Omnipage or Dragon application has stopped working

Problem

When you run Dragon Naturally Speaking or Omnipage you get the following error:
“[Omnipage / Dragon] has stopped working”

Solution

Try the following:

  • Make sure that the DEP settings is set correctly:
    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Right click on Computer (or My Computer) and click Properties.
    3. Windows XP users can ignore this step: On the left hand side, click Advanced system settings.
    4. Click the Advanced tab.
    5. Underneath the Performance heading, click Settings.
    6. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
    7. Make sure it is set to “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”.
    8. Restart the computer if you had to change the setting.
  • Download the KernelAPI.dll file (Right click and click Save target as / Save link as) and put it in the Omnipage folder (Usually C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\Omnipage). Replace the existing file.
