STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME

Problem

When the computer starts it goes to a blue screen with the message
“STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME”.

Solution

  1. Boot from your Windows CD/DVD or Recovery Disc and go into the Command Prompt. Ask your manufacturer for advice on how to do this.
  2. Type “chkdsk /r C:” (without quotes) and press Enter.
  3. It may ask if you want to dismount the volume, if so, press Y then press Enter.
  4. Once the scan has finished. Restart the computer without the disc.

If this fails, try fixing the Master Boot Record (MBR).
