You do not have appropriate access privledges to install Mac Updates

Problem

When installing updates from Software Update you get the error:
“The update [Name of Update] can’t be saved. You do not have the appropriate access privileges.”

Solution

Repair Disk Permissions.

If this doesn’t work then:

1. Quit Software Update.
2. Go to your system hard drive (usually Macintosh HD).
3. Go to the Library folder.
4. Move the Updates folder to the Trash.

Then try running Software Update again. It will have to re-download the updates.
