C++ Runtime error when installing Dragon

Problem

When installing Dragon you get the following error:

“A previous installation / reboot is pending, please reboot to complete the installation and try again to install Visual C++ Runtime for Dragon Naturallly Speaking.”

Solution

Try restarting the computer and installing Dragon again.
If the problem persists:

  1. Download this file.
  2. Extract the zip file and run the “install_vcruntime.vbs” file following the instructions.
  3. Once done, run the “install_dragon.vbs” file.
  4. Windows XP: In the window that comes up, uncheck the “Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity” box, then click OK.
Windows Vista or newer: Click Continue to allow the script to run.
  5. You will now be asked questions by the program. The answers that you use will depend on how you are installing Dragon:
    • If you are using the Dragon Install DVD:
      1. “Are you installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 from a download?” – Click No.
      2. “Are you installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 from a DVD? – Click Yes.
      3. “Enter the Drive letter of your DVD drive:” – Type in the letter of the DVD drive which you have put the disc in. If you are unsure. Click Start -> Computer and find out the drive letter from there.
    • If you have downloaded Dragon:
      • “Are you installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 from a download?” – Click Yes and it should start installing.
If the above does not work for you then try running the install_dragon.vbs again with the following answers:
  1. “Are you installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 from a download?” – Click No.
  2. “Are you installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 from a DVD? – Click No.
  3. “Enter the path to the location of the installation files without an ending slash:” – You can’t browse for the file so the location will need to type in the location manually.
