Windows Updates stall on "Configuring 0%"

Problem

When selecting the option to “Install updates and then shut down your computer” Or trying to apply updates manually, you find that when it comes to configure the updates it stalls on the message “Configuring Updates 0%”. After a while, it may say the update failed.

Cause

The Windows Update service may have corrupt or missing .dll files causing it to fail when it comes to installing the updates.

Solution

  1. Download this file.
  2. Once downloaded, extract the file.
  3. Right click the bat file you extracted, select Run as administrator and wait for the fix to apply itself.
  4. Once finished, press Enter once as instructed and restart your computer.
