Using Right Click on a Mac

Hint: An alternative way of right clicking is to hold the ctrl key and click.
You can enable Right Click for your Trackpad or Mouse by following the relevant instructions.

Trackpad

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click the Trackpad icon (on the second row).
  4. Follow these instructions based on what type of Trackpad you have:
    • For Multi-Touch Trackpad users:
      Check the “Secondary Click” option found under the “One Finger” heading (see below).Trackpad Preferences
      You can also enable the “Secondary Click” option under the “Two Fingers” heading to allow right clicking by pressing the Trackpad with two fingers.
    • For One Button Trackpad users (older models):

      Right click using the Trackpad button is not supported.You will have to use two fingers to click by enabling the option named “For secondary clicks, place two fingers on the trackpad then click the button” (see below).

Standard Mouse

Using a mouse with a right button should work automatically.

Apple Mouse

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click the “Mouse” option
    • If that is not there, click the “Keyboard & Mouse” option, then click the Mouse tab.
  4. Click on the dropdown on the right hand side of the mouse and select the “Secondary Button” option.
