Music software won’t open after installing MIDI driver

Problem

After installing a MIDI device on your Mac, when you open your music production / editing software, the application icon on the dock just bounces and wont open.

Examples of applications affected may include (but are not limited to) Ableton Live, Cubase, GarageBand and Sibelius.

Cause

The driver may not be compatible with your version of Mac OS X.

Solution

  1. Click the Finder icon on the Dock.
  2. On the top menu click Go -> Go to Folder…
  3. Type /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers and press Enter.
  4. Remove any reference to the driver that you installed.

You should then be able to open your software again.
Contact the manufacturer for an updated driver for your device.
