Office 2010 applications won’t open after installing Business Contact Manager

Problem

You installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2010 after Microsoft Office 2010 was installed and now you are unable to open Office applications. The shortcuts may appear dead and launching any of the applications may show errors stating it needs repair.

Additionally, you may be unable to repair or uninstall Office 2010 due to more errors appearing.

Solution

You will need your Microsoft Office 2010 install disc or download.

  1. Download the Windows Install Cleanup Utility and save it to your Desktop.
  2. Run the program as administrator.
    • Windows Vista, 7 or newer:
      1. Find where you saved the file.
      2. Right click on the file and click “Run as administrator”.
    • Windows XP:
      • Run the file using an administrator account.
  3. Once installed, click go to your Start Menu -> All Programs and open “Windows Install Clean Up”.
  4. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on every Microsoft Office item in the list. This will highlight them one by one.
  5. Let go of the Ctrl key.
  6. Click the Remove button.
  7. Run Command Prompt as Admin.
  8. Select all the text in the box below and press Ctrl + C to Copy it:
    del /f /s /q "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\*"
  9. Right click in the Command Prompt and click Paste.
  10. Press Enter. It will now remove files from the folder.
  11. Close the Command Prompt.
  12. Reinstall Office 2010 from your install disc or other media.
