Software Update keeps prompting to update Thunderbolt Firmware

Problem

When running Software Update on your Mac, it keeps suggesting that you install Thunderbolt Firmware  v1.0, even after you have tried to install it and restarted.

Solution

Please ensure your Mac is connected to a power supply before following the instructions below.

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Download Thunderbolt Firmware v1.0 for Snow Leopard or Lion and install.
  3. Restart the computer twice.
  4. Download Thunderbolt Firmware v1.1 for Snow Leopard or Lion and install.
  5. Restart the computer twice again.

You should now be able to run software update and no longer be prompted to install the Thunderbolt Firmware.
