Problem
After installing the provided drivers from the CD, you still can’t perform a scan with your OpticBook 3800 on a Mac.
Solution
Please note that after performing the below, you may still have difficulties scanning. Please change the settings of the scan to not have “Custom size” checked as sometimes only a tiny portion to scan may be selected by default.
Snow Leopard
Please note that Image Capture does not work with the OpticBook 3800 on Snow Leopard. You will need to use the provided application instead. See step 16.
- Delete all Plustek / OpticBook related items from the applications folder.
- Click on the Finder icon on the dock (by default its the first icon and looks like a smile on a square).
- On the top toolbar just to the right of the apple icon, you should see Go… Please click on this and select go to folder… near the bottom of the drop down menu.
- Please enter /Library/Printers.
- Delete anything related to Plustek or OpticBook from there.
- Repeat steps 2-3 but this time enter ~/Library/Printers.
- Delete anything related to Plustek or OpticBook from there.
- Click on the apple icon in the top left hand icon and click system preferences.
- Click on Printers & Scan.
- Remove OpticBook 3800 scanner from the list.
- Right click (hold down ctrl and click) the white interface on the left hand side of this screen and select Reset printing system…
- Press ok on the drop down menu that appears.
- Download this driver and install it.
- Restart machine.
- Plugin and turn on the OpticBook 3800.
- Open up Applications folder and find Plustek / OpticBook application.
- Use this application to scan.
Lion
- Delete all Plustek / OpticBook related items from the applications folder.

- Download this driver and install it.
- Restart machine.
- Plugin and turn on the OpticBook 3800
- Click on the apple icon in the top left hand icon and click system preferences.
- Click on Printers & Scan
- If the scanner hasn’t already been added please click the plus sign and choose plustek 3800 as the chosen driver.
