Windows has detected an IP Address Conflict

Problem

You try to access the Internet and you get the error message “Windows has detected an IP address conflict”.

Cause

An IP address conflict occurs when two computers on a LAN (Local Area Network) or the Internet have been assigned the same IP address. IP conflicts usually occur if static IP addresses have been set up incorrectly. Two computers normally render each other and this makes them unusable on the network.

Solution

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type cmd in the search box, right click the cmd that appears and click ‘Run as administrator’.
  3. Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
  4. Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
  5. Type exit and press Enter.
