iTunes states it cannot connect an Apple Mobile Device


When a device is connected and iTunes is running, the following message is displayed: “This [device name] cannot be used, because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started.”


The Apple Mobile Device service is not starting with Windows automatically.


  1. Click start
  2.  Type “services.msc” (without quotes) and press Enter.
  3. Look for Apple Mobile Device.
  4. Right click on the entry then click Properties.
  5. Next click Start up type and select Automatic.
  6. Then click Start, click Apply and then OK.
