This article assumes that C:\ is your main hard drive.
If it is not, then change the drive letter used in this example.
- If already logged in to Windows
- Open the Command Prompt as an Administrator.
- In the Command Prompt, type “chkdsk /r C:” (without quotes) and press Enter.
- It will ask if you want to run the check the next time you restart.
- Press Y then press Enter.
- Restart your computer and it will start repairing your disk.
- If using a Recovery Disc
- Click the Command Prompt option.
- Type “chkdsk /r C:” (without quotes) and press Enter.
- It may ask if you want to dismount the volume.
- If so, press Y then press Enter.
- Once it has completed, restart your computer.
