Repair Disk Errors on Windows

This article assumes that C:\ is your main hard drive.
If it is not, then change the drive letter used in this example.

  • If already logged in to Windows
    1. Open the Command Prompt as an Administrator.
    2. In the Command Prompt, type “chkdsk /r C:” (without quotes) and press Enter.
    3. It will ask if you want to run the check the next time you restart.
    4. Press Y then press Enter.
    5. Restart your computer and it will start repairing your disk.
  • If using a Recovery Disc
    1. Click the Command Prompt option.
    2. Type “chkdsk /r C:” (without quotes) and press Enter.
    3. It may ask if you want to dismount the volume.
    4. If so, press Y then press Enter.
    5. Once it has completed, restart your computer.
