How to disable visual themes in Windows

A lot of users may not wish to perform this tweak as they prefer the default Windows theme.
  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Right click on Computer (or My Computer) and click Properties.
  3. Windows XP users can ignore this step:
    On the left, click Advanced System settings.
  4. Make sure the Advanced tab is selected.
  5. Underneath the Performance tab, click “Settings…”
  6. Click the “Adjust for best performance” radio button.
  7. Click OK and click OK again.
To revert back to the default setting, choose the option “Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer”.
